A new production centre where a range of commercial vehicles will be designed and built is now operational after a £2m investment by Ferndown based Horton Commercial Ltd.

The former 1.1 acre Marben Engineering site on Ferndown Industrial Estate has been totally rebuilt to accommodate production of either bespoke vehicle bodies for specialist companies and transport operators, including utility companies.  It will also see the development of a range of Hortons own products including its Easy Mover range which offers high volume and high weight capacities in the 3.5 Ton van market.

With Whole Type Approval gained in 2013 and with ISO9001, the company can manufacture vehicle bodies onto most leading makes of van and truck chassis. Horton is retaining its original site on the industrial estate for its thriving refurbishment services.

Dave Wolfenden, who founded the business in 1985, says that with his current management team in place, including General Manager Jeff Wentworth, Production Manager Chris Chaffey and Sales Manager Richard Hall, the company now has the premises and facilities to meet demand.

“A full gantry lifting system to aid production and improve health and safety for the site has also been introduced. We have now started to also expand the team of coachbuilders and expect to provide in-house training  to welder/fabricators, sheet metal workers as production capacity increases,” said Dave Wolfenden.
